Cherished number plates

Cherished number plates is a term used to describe personalised number plates or private number plates.

As the transfer of number plates is known as a "cherished transfer" some number plate owners and enthusiasts of the old school still use the term cherished number plates.

The term "cherished" refers to the significance of the combination itself- a private number plate is cherished by its owner as a unique and very personal possession.

The transfer of number plates from vehicle to vehicle is still known as a cherished transfer. In the beginnings number plates were procured and exchanged on the basis of their "meaning" and using Autonumerology - what they "said"

Private number plates began as something cherished by their owners; as it was much harder than it is today to buy and sell number plates, the owners took great pride in their possessions and cherished them accordingly.

Still Cherished number plates

These days the term Cherished number plate is a bit old hat and has been replaced by private plate / private reg / personalised number plate.

I suppose that as it has become easier to buy, sell and transfer number plates - so the value and meaning of most of them has diminished accordingly.
